Speeding Charges Significantly Mitigated for Young Driver at the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal on March 11th, 2024

March 2024

CHARGES:
(1) SPEEDING 11+ (119 mph in 45 mph zone)
(2) SPEEDING 11+ (66 mph in 55 mph zone)

In a case that tested the limits of young driver accountability, our Client, a 19-year-old driver, faced severe repercussions after being charged with multiple speeding violations. Notably, these incidents included speeding at 119 mph in a 45 mph zone and another at 66 mph in a 55 mph zone. The charges were brought forward by the Bristol Police and North Kingstown Police, emphasizing the gravity of the client's actions.

Attorney Angelica Bovis stepped in to navigate through the complexities of this case at the RI Traffic Tribunal. The client's driving history revealed a pattern of reckless behavior, with three previous speeding tickets within the last year, compounding the severity of the current charges. Given the young age of the client and the accumulated violations, he was on the brink of facing Colin Foote sanctions. Such penalties would entail a lengthy license suspension, 60 hours of community service, 60 hours of drivers retraining, and up to $1,000 in fines, significantly impacting his future.

Recognizing the critical situation, Defense Counsel Bovis embarked on a strategic legal approach. The defense's immediate objective was to mitigate the Colin Foote sanctions that loomed over the client. Through comprehensive preparation and relentless advocacy, Attorney Bovis was pivotal in shifting the course of action. The defense's efforts culminated in significant negotiations, ultimately convincing the judge to forego the harsher penalties.

The resolution of this case was a testament to the effective defense strategy employed by Attorney Bovis. Although the client's license was suspended, the outcome was far less severe than initially anticipated. The avoidance of Colin Foote penalties and the exclusion of additional fines or sanctions marked a significant victory for the client. This case underscores the importance of skilled legal representation in navigating the complexities of traffic violations and the potential for young drivers to learn from their mistakes.

CASE RESULT: CLIENT NOT DECLARED A COLIN FOOTE VIOLATOR; LICENSE SUSPENDED FOR SIX MONTHS WITH NO ADDITIONAL FINES OR SANCTIONS on March 11th, 2024
