Leaving the Scene of an Accident Charge Resolved with 1-Year Filing in Kent County District Court on May 12th, 2023
May 2023
CHARGE: (1) LEAVING THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT RESULTING IN PROPERTY DAMAGE
Attorney Angelica Bovis of the Marin and Barrett Law Firm successfully defended a case involving a client charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in property damage. The incident occurred during a road-rage incident where a motor vehicle accident took place. In an attempt to avoid the escalating situation, the client left the scene with the intention of calling the police. However, she was charged with a misdemeanor for leaving the scene of an accident.
Defense counsel strategically focused on the client's background as a school teacher with a clean record and highlighted her cooperation with the police throughout the incident. Leveraging these factors, counsel successfully negotiated a resolution for the case. The client received a one-year filing, which means that after one year, the charge will be completely expunged. Additionally, the client made a voluntary contribution of $150 to the Victim of Crimes Indemnification Fund (VCIF).
