Domestic Violence Charges Reduced to Non-Domestic Disorderly Conduct in Newport District Court on 9/14/22
September 2022
CHARGES:
(1) DOMESTIC ASSAULT
(2) DOMESTIC DISORDERLY CONDUCT (R.I.G.L. 11-45-1)
Attorney Nicholas Parrillo with Marin and Barrett, Inc. is please to report another case win for a client charged with domestic violence. The police in Newport County were called to a residence by a neighbor after hearing screaming and what sounded like a fight in an adjacent apartment. When the police arrived they found our client outside. After being let into the apartment the police found the apartment in complete disarray and our client's significant other with a badly bruised face and hands. Our client was promptly arrested and charged with domestic assault and disorderly conduct.
After meeting with our client we were able to obtain some background on both parties involved that we were able to use to build a defense. Even with the evidence as grim as it was, we were able ultimately to convince the prosecution that this was a case that they could not win. Ultimately the charges were reduced to a non-domestic petty misdemeanor offense, the No Contact Order was dropped, and our client walked out without even being placed on probation.
RESULTS: DOMESTIC ASSAULT DISMISSED AND DOMESTIC DISORDERLY CONDUCT REDUCED TO NON-DOMESTIC DISORDERLY CONDUCT and the Client placed on a one-year filing and required to complete anger management counseling on September 14th, 2022
