Domestic Violence Charges Dismissed in Kent County District Court on March 20th, 2023
March 2023
CHARGES:
(1) DOMESTIC ASSAULT AND BATTERY
(2) DOMESTIC DISORDERLY CONDUCT
Attorney Kensley Barrett of the Marin and Barrett Law Firm successfully defended a case involving a client charged with domestic assault and battery and domestic disorderly conduct. In March 2023, the Warwick Police Department charged the client following a reported incident at a Warwick residence.
Attorney Barrett promptly contacted the Warwick Police Department to obtain a copy of the police report and reached out to the complaining witness to ascertain what had happened during the incident. Marin & Barrett was able to obtain an affidavit of non-prosecution signed by the complaining witness. Simultaneously, they enrolled the client in a four-hour anger management class.
On the first court date, Marin & Barrett provided both the affidavit of non-prosecution and the anger management completion certification to the prosecution. The case was continued for one week and was subsequently dismissed. As a result, the client avoided a domestic violence conviction, mandatory domestic violence classes, and had the case sealed from their record.
CASE RESULTS: ALL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CHARGES DISMISSED on March 20th, 2023.
